Close TeaserThe Market

In recent years UK-based market players have been able to profit from the development of rapidly expanding renewable energy markets worldwide, particularly in the field of offshore wind energy. However, compared to other European markets like Spain, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic – which have been boosted by state incentive programs – the UK‘s domestic solar energy market was relatively unattractive. Indeed, its accumulated PV capacity has made little progress.

The UK‘s recently implemented Clean Energy Cash Back scheme, though, could dramatically change the nature of its domestic renewable energy market. For example, generous feed-in tariffs (FITs) became available from April 1, 2010.
Under this scheme, energy suppliers can make regular payments to households and communities that generate their own electricity from renewable or low carbon sources, such as PV panels up to an installation size of five MW.

As other markets languish due to uncertainty surrounding future FIT developments, the UK solar market could become the place to be for system and component suppliers, installers and finance providers.
