Solarvalley Summer School
Learning by Professionals
Periodically the leading-edge cluster Solarvalley Mitteldeutschland organizes the Summer School for bachelor and master students as well as PhD students. Key aspects are photovoltaics, storage devices and technologies, smart grids, energy system of renewable energies and energy management. In the past three Summer Schools were organized in cooperation with Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and TU Ilmenau.

2013: Solarvalley Summer School for Smart Energy 2013
The Solarvalley Summer School for Smart Energy took
place from September 23rd to 27th, 2013 at Ilmenau
University of Technology (Ilmenau, Germany).
This event was addressed to bachelor as well as master
students and PhD-students. At the Summer School
experts of photovoltaic research, system integration
including storage devices, power electronics, material
science and smart grid gave excellent lectures.
Additionally, students had the possibility to meet industry
experts and to discuss new research topics with PhD-students
or visit laboratories.
The program of the Solarvalley Summer School for Smart
Energy provided knowledge that went beyond university
learning contents and enhances the view for innovative
research topics. It was focused on:
- New requirements for materials in photovoltaics
- Thin layers and boundaries in photovoltaic structures, functions and interactions
- Glass for solar modules with high reliability
- Electrochemistry of energy storage devices - types, construction and operation
- Smart grids and energy systems
On Tuesday, the Summer School was held together with the congress cie-mo 2013 ‘Design for energy transition - Smart grid, mobility, infrastructure‘. This annual congress was deepening the topics of energy systems in future, model regions of renewable energies, financing and communication. The organizer was the ‘Impulsregion Erfurt-Weimar- Jena‘.
